Impresses for its depth, power and balance, a wine whose classic acid-tannin structure could only have come from a pedigreed terroir. There's an enormous concentration of black currants and minerals, but the wine is immature in astringent tannins. Needs time, and possibly lots of it. Best 2011 and beyond. —Steve Heimoff, 91 points

The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Limited Release is a blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot and 4% Cabernet Franc. Like its sibling, it tips the scales at 14.9% alcohol, but it is hidden and a non-issue. Juicy and more black fruit-oriented than the Solo, the wine reveals notes of forest floor, graphite and creme de cassis in a full-bodied, fresh and lively, concentrated style. I?e had mixed emotions about Silverado Vineyards wines over the years, but these two efforts are stunning, and certainly merit attention from serious consumers of California wines. This long, rich, textured wine should drink well for another 15 or more years. 93 points

Silverado Vineyards Tasting Notes
Brilliant dark cassis color; aromas of ripe cherry, dried herbs, savory spices and cocoa; round and weighty, with well-integrated stone fruit and sweet oak flavors, well-framed by lively tannins and balanced acidity, with a mannerly but youthful finish.
