Wine Spectator
Still fresh and zesty, with vibrant citrus and dried mango flavors that offer candied ginger notes. Finishes with plenty of spice notes, with hints of anise. Drink now. 91 points

Wine Enthusiast
Dark raisin and dried apricot flavors manifest on this immensely dark, old goldhued wine. Enormous concentration, as with the initially, almost painful acidity that comes through the spirit. This is an old wine, no question, but not too old, one to be savored in sips with all the flavors working at high intensity. 93 points

Wine Advocate
The NV 40 Years Old Tawny Porto is a typical Douro blend bottled in June 2018 with a Vinolok stopper and 125 grams per liter of residual sugar. It is here, finally, in the Sandeman tawny lineup this issue that the wine feels full-bodied and seriously powerful. This rolls around the palate nicely and lingers in that classic old-tawny fashion. There is considerable grip on that flavorful finish. For all of its power and concentration, this 40 is also as lively as any of its younger siblings. While it certainly shows somewhat older, with darker flavors leaning a bit more to the molasses side of the equation, it is still bright, penetrating and focused. It is the pick of the litter of the Sandeman tawnies this issue. To be sure, there's a steep uptick in price from the 30 to this?hich might make the well-priced 30 the sweeter spot in the lineup if you want complexity?ut this is easily the better wine. There were 4,800 bottles produced. 94 points

Sandeman Tasting Notes
An intense, deeply flavoured 40 year old Tawny, with a massive bouquet suggesting vanilla, oak and honey, and a mouthful of very complex flavours of dried fruits, spices, and nuts. As the wine unfolds smoothly and develops in the mouth, one discovers a superb balance of wood ageing and vibrancy, characteristic of the Sandeman Tawny Portos.
Once open Sandeman 40 Years Old Tawny can remain fresh for up to 4 - 8 weeks.
