Wine Spectator
Starts slowly, with modest dark plum and blackberry fruit, but then the acidity kicks in and takes the fleshy core and bouncy side notes through the lengthy finish, which has a lovely echo of raspberry. 98 points

A finely balanced wine—its immense tannins are mitigated by the fruit and dark chocolate flavors. It finishes with a hint of smoky wood. 93 points

This is another brilliant offering from Philippe Cuvelier, who has totally revolutionized the quality of this famous estate. The 2011 Clos Fourtet exhibits a dense blue/purple color as well as beautiful notes of creme de cassis, blueberries and raspberries, a complete as well as layered mid-palate, sweet tannin, good acidity and a charming personality. This is a highly successful effort for the vintage. Consume it over the next 10-12 years. 93 points

International Wine Cellar
Fully saturated purple. Floral and mineral notes add perfume and lift to redcurrant and blackberry aromas. Deep flavors of blackberry and cocoa powder are clean and pure, not to mention very long on the aftertaste. Finishes with a very refined mouthfeel and a touch of austerity that suggests this will age slowly and gracefully. Looks to be a very successful 2011.

Clos Fourtet Tasting Notes
Planted to 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc, the Clos Fourtet estate has fairly old vines averaging 30 years, and has been making better and better wines over the last decade. This 2005 may be their best wine ever.
