V.Mitolo and Son

About:
The father & Son team of Vito & Tony Mitolo continue the tradition of four generations of wine making in the renowned South Australian wine region of McLaren Vale.

The family originally hails from the Abruzzi region of Italy after they emigrated to the 'lucky' country in the 1950s.

Their wines are produced using traditional methods passed down from one generation to the next, gently blended with the wine making techniques of the new world.

V.Mitolo & Son continue the culture of sharing good food & producing fine wines that more often than not is to be enjoyed surrounded by family & friends.

Vineyard Information

The vineyard age for our wines range from 20 to 30 years, with fruit coming from four different vineyards and microclimates from the McLaren vale coast line to McLaren Flat. Soil types range from terra rossa, limestone, ironstone and sand. The vineyards are located around 50 km’s south of Adelaide, South Australia, with crops ranging from 2 to 4 tonnes an acre.

Our Vineyard ethos is to keep the vines as natural as possible by respecting the land using under-vine cultivation for weed control, minimal irrigation and only ever using organic sprays in the vineyard. We use our own grape marc and chicken manure composting fertilizer, hand prune and machine harvest.

There would not be much point in extolling the virtues of all these organic & natural vineyard practices if we didn’t continue it through to the winemaking process. The wines are made as natural as we can get them, with low levels of sulfur dioxide, being about the only additive. We only use this as a preservative to protect the delicate and fresh aromas and flavors of our wines during the winemaking, barrel ageing and bottling process.
