Clos Fourtet Tasting Notes
Planted to 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc, the Clos Fourtet estate has fairly old vines averaging 30 years, and has been making better and better wines over the last decade. This 2005 may be their best wine ever.

Wine Spectator
Delivers blackberry, dried porcini, tobacco and licorice aromas. Full-bodied, with layers of velvety tannins and loads of dark chocolate, cigar box, currant, berry and mineral. The finish is long, with a coffee, almost meaty, aftertaste. Very beautiful and balanced. ?James Suckling, March 31, 2008. 98 points

Wine Advocate
Clos Fourtet is on a roll, having produced a stunning wine in 2003, and an even more brilliant effort in 2005. Stephane Derenoncourt, the consulting oenologist, has plenty with which to work given the fact that this is a relatively large vineyard (50 acres) planted with 85% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc as well as a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon. The inky/blue/purple-colored 2005 boasts an exceptional perfume of acacia flowers, blackberry and blueberry liqueur, graphite, scorched earth, and background oak. The wine possesses a full-bodied texture and abundant quantities of stunningly pure black fruits. The result is a sumptuous St.-Emilion of great concentration, intensity, and overall balance. This prodigious effort looks set for 25-30 years of evolution. Utterly awesome! ?Robert Parker, April 2008. 98 points

Wine Enthusiast
New wood aromas are mingled with black fruits. The wine is solid, but with sweet wood and fruit tannins, which are already integrating well. The fruit is deliciously ripe, with acidity only just showing. ?Roger Voss, June 20, 2006. 93 points
