Erna Schein Tasting Notes
The 2005 Petite Sirah delivers on all fronts! There is little to say about the color beyond, ?Black!? It has a deep and thorough nose of cedar, Asian five-spice, anise, coriander and jasmine. Many island themed notes work their way from the nose well into the mid-palate: we found lychee, kumquat and coconut. An intense Rhone-like, yet supple palate reminded us of miso/sake glaze, tar, blueberry and pork belly. The tannin structure is firm and present, albeit seductively rounded and soft. Given this wine's lineage, tannins and ridiculously long finish, plan on keeping at least a few bottles for the long haul.
