Wine Spectator
Aromas of crushed dark fruits, dried mushroom and dried rose follow through to a full body, with velvety tannins and a long finish. There's wonderful length and focus. Best after 2012. —James Suckling, 92 points

Wine Advocate
The 2005 vintage was not kind to brothers Aldo and Riccardo Seghesio, as they lost half of their Barolo production. The 2005 Barolo La Villa is a pretty, soft-textured wine. Medium in body, the wine reveals a fresh, fruit-driven personality with good complexity and no hard edges. The wine's accessible style and balance makes up for any complexity that is missing in this vintage, while the oak is integrated quite nicely. This looks to be a relatively early maturing wine, but it should drink well for at least a few years. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2015. —Antonio Galloni, 90 points
